Garden Of Eden: Cast Of Characters

This is another thought exercise to see if identities within a worldview can be changed or altered without damaging the underlying actionable narrative. In the Garden of Eden, identities matter. So, let’s get into it.
Enlil the Righteous Judge. The Intolerant Destroyer. In myth and lore, Enlil is the God of Wind, Air, Earth, and Storms. He is Zeus’s lightning bolt, Thor’s Hammer, the Bringer of Floods, The Tormentor of Egyptian Pharaohs. Enlil is known throughout the Old Testament and the Torah as El, earlier, and YHWH, later. In English language Bibles, he is called The Lord, THE LORD, or LORD. Interestingly, YHWH is the ONLY proper name given to a Hebrew God. It was the embodiment of terror and respect.
Enki the Compassionate Creator. The nurturer who gifted and guided humanity. In myth and lore, Enki is the God of Creation, Water, Craft, Magic, and Mischief. He is Hades, Gaia, and Poseidon working to foil Zeus. He is Loki’s shape-shifting sly eye. Enki is known throughout the Old Testament and Torah as Elohim. In English language Bibles, Elohim is translated as God or GOD. True to his nature, Enki also makes a duel-credit appearance in the book of Genesis. He appears first in the initial creation story beginning in Genesis 1:1. In the beginning, God…. Enki is the Bible’s grammatical subject. All that follows is action set in motion by him. Enki’s second solo appearance in Genesis is in Chapter 3:1 as The Serpent. His third appearance is in the same verse as “God”, or Elohim. Enki the Serpent asks Eve if Elohim really said don’t eat the damned fruit? In other words, Enki played a mischievous game with Eve by casting doubt on HIMSELF and tempting her with (ooooooh) The Apple. Enki makes his fourth solo appearance in the story of Cain and Abel. God/Elohim/Enki gave Eve another child to ease her grief at Abel’s murder.
Lord God = YHWH Adonai. LORD God = YHWH Elohim. Enlil Enki. The Hebrews used “YHWH Elohim” or “YHWH Adonai” to convey a collaborative effort between these two characters. Often, they acted as one. In true accord with one voice. Enough to be given a single name by the Hebrew people. The second creation story in Genesis Chapter 2 is ascribed to YHWH Elohim. Enlil and Enki, as one. Specifically zeroing in on the creation of mankind. Even in the collective term, YHWH Elohim, or Enlil and Enki, one can see the individual characters of the brothers shining through. Enlil’s dismay and frustration at their sin and his harsh punishment of Adam and Eve, grounded in the Earth and the difficulty and toll it will demand of them and their descendants. Enlil’s sense of justice demanded violent action- not out of hatred, but out of a desire to preserve the goodness of the universe. Enki’s deft manipulation and maneuvering, on the other hand, always seeks to bring out the best in humanity…even pushing us when we fear to jump. Legend holds Enki even took a female human as a wife. Enki believed to his bones that this version of humanity was capable. Enlil revealed their shame. Enki then slays a lamb to cover their nakedness. The first blood sacrifice. Enlil drives them from the Garden of Eden (Erridu?) and places a messenger with a flaming sword to guard the entrance. But Enki follows them out. Enki goes beyond the judgement and stays at humanity’s side. The two sometimes opposing forces acted as one even while in opposition to each other. They were one of purpose. Light and Dark. Yin and Yang. It was their nature to be so. Eventually, YHWH became the accepted, assigned name of God. It’s English pronunciation is Jehovah.
The Apple. It isn’t really an apple, methinks. No real revelation there. Drawing from Sumerian, Akkadian, and Babylonian recorded history of Annunaki involvement in human affairs, I believe The Apple is emblematic of what we can refer to as Forbidden Knowledge. This would include things such as Language, Astronomy, Metallurgy, Agriculture, Engineering, Carpentry, Medicine, Physics, Elemental Science, etc. The basic intellectual building blocks of human civilization. Imparted by the gods to their earliest human creations around the time of the dawn of the Younger Dryas period in history. This kind of information can’t just be shared with anyone. Can’t just be giving the keys to the universe to any ole budding species. Not at all species should be allowed to flourish to the point where they are able to wield elemental powers.
Humanity. Centered around a lone Adam, or Adamu, and Eve. For whatever reason, Enlil and the Annunaki Collective felt that humanity wasn’t ready. Or able. They engineered us. Engineering biological beings probably involves alot of trial and error. Perhaps there was discussion about whether or not this version of the biologic was capable of making the spiritual evolutions their Creators imagined. In other words, maybe we weren’t the first attempt. Perhaps there were others that reached various points in their development and destroyed themselves. Atlantis. Lemuria. Gap Theory. Failures. Perhaps Enlil felt humans needed more tweaking. Or maybe he felt we would never be right for the task. He sure kept a hair trigger finger throughout the overarching narrative. Regardless, Enki broke rank and pushed humanity from the sidelines into the big game. The Apple was his leverage. Ready or not. The Knowledge was out. The clock began ticking. Tick, tock, time…tick, tock, time... The Apple is what drives us beyond what drives us: to become like our Creators. To Ascend. To find our way back to their Eden. To prove we are worth keeping in the living universe. The Apple drives humanity’s loop. To become like our Creators without annihilating ourselves in the process. We’re here talking about it, so humans haven’t ascended it yet. Anything can happen.
The Author. There are several involved across numerous civilizations. Numerous timelines. Our grasp of the witness testimony or their conveyance of their own memory is the dense horizon we work to penetrate. We are limited by the linguistic proficiency of the witness. In other words, our ability to discern is contained by the witness’ ability to choose the right words for what they saw, experienced, or heard. This matters. It means we absolutely must give the authors grace in their use of limited language to convey cosmicly advanced events, principles, and truths.
Thought exercise: Read Genesis 1-3 and apply the cast of characters as described herein. See what happens.
